Unfortunately, just like many of us, the roof at 14 Leroy St. is getting older, and is showing signs of its age.
Fortunately, we can do something about these signs of aging.
To prevent damage to the underlying structure, the roof needs to be replaced sooner than later. One thing is for sure, this roof is complex, requiring professional knowledge and workmanship to ensure the safety, longevity, and beauty of this historic building.
To that end, the Active Chapter and Alumni E-Board set about the task of obtaining quotes from several North Country contractors.
Bertands Construction proved to be not only one of the most economical options, but also provided an attention to detail far beyond any of the other bidders.
Over the past two years with the Labor Day Work Weekends, we have collectively show what the Brothers of OPiO can do when we work together. While this task does not require the same in person support as previous endeavors, it does come with a hefty price tag. If you would like to assist on more personal level, We would graciously accept any and all help coordinating fund raising efforts (organizing mailers, planning regional events, etc). Please contact the Alumni E-Board if you are interesting in lending a hand.
The work was quoted at $47,025. In conjunction with the funds held over from last year, we are seeking to raise $45,000 to fund this necessary project and any potential overages.
Please take a moment to review the Bertrands Construction Quote.
As well as some additional information and photo’s they gathered: Bertrands Construction Scope.
We need your help to reach this goal. Please donate what you can, and implore your fellow brothers to do the same.
Additionally, we are also exploring any potential Historic Preservation grants afforded to us by our inclusion in the National Registry Of Historic Places. If eligible and awarded, these grants are reimbursement grants. Meaning we need to first fund any projects ourselves. A major piece of the grant scoring process is proof of funding.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Alumni E-Board with any comments, questions, or concerns.
Alternatively, checks can be made out to:
“Omicron Pi Omicron Fraternity Inc”
20 Knight St.
Glens Falls, NY 12801
We will ensure the funds are added to the running total.
Some concerns have been raised regarding the lifespan of the existing roof, that lasted just shy of 20 years. The fact of the matter is, there is a known occurance of defective shingles being installed throughout the north country around this time effecting many people, few of whom have seen any restitution. Any such warranty claim on our end requires original proof of purchase, and proof of professional installation. After a through search over the past few years, the current Alumni Board has been unable to locate any such documents. If you have any such information, please reach out to the Alumni E-Board. Furthermore, any such claim would only reimburse the material cost. While not an insignificant sum, it is only a small portion of the total.
